When it comes to Anime, Year 2019 have been amazing year so far. Five Anime season and a Movie from the year 2019 had made it into top 50 anime as per myanimelist already ( 3 in 2018). From high flying action like Attack on Titan Season 3b to chilling mind games of Promised Neverland, This year surely have been insane overall. Our subject of today’s review Kimetsu no Yaiba is one of the best of not best anime this year offered. I am “Bubble Buster” and this is Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba CrackView.
Kimetsu no Yaiba – Not you Average Shounen Show
Ah Man! Its hard to collect my words to review this anime. Where do I even begin with this one. (Begin with background of show Baka!). Oh….yes…! Thanks!………….wait!…..
Kimetus no Yaiba is written by Koyoharu Gotōge and adapted into anime by Ufotable, the same dudes who brought us favorites like Fate/Zero, fate/Stay Night UBW, fara noKyokia aaaaand a dozen of other shows no body care about…….probably. In production value and top tier animation, Ufotable have been impressive since a long time. No animation studio have made me “woah” more then ufotable when it comes to eye candy animation. Even animation of their anime old like Fate/Zero of 2012 stands above then most of latest anime out there. When it comes to Kimestu no Yaiba, the anime is not only ufotable’s best animation ever but most beautifully animated Anime of all time in my opinion. From the high action fight scenes, to calm backgrounds, Ufotable have done a job that forces one to submerge into the beautifully crafted art of them. The gorgeous art mixed with clever use of CGI have provided us with such beautiful fight scenes that forced me to pause show for a moment to allow my brain absorb what I have witnessed before my eyes.
As far as story is concerned. I wasn’t a big fan of initial reveal of plot. I had a opinion that this will be another one of your average revenge story but boy I was wrong!!! sooooo wrong. The plot at its core indeed sounds simple but when explored further it is definitely not. Without spoiling anything I’ll try to give some briefs. Kimetsu no Yaibaa’s story follows Tanjiro Kamado, a kind & intelligent dude living with his family hand to mouth but peacefully until one day a demon slayed his whole family leaving him and one of her sister “Nezuko Kamado” alive. Though Tanjiro is untouched but Nezuko have turned into a half human half human state. Tanjiro then decides to join Demon Slayer Corps to fight demons while protecting her sister. I know plot seems like your average shounen revenge plot trust me, its not!
Another thing I love in this show it breaks your average shounen protagonist stereotype. Unlike your average shounen protagonist, you wont find Tanjiro mindless raging into fights. We see Tanjiro keeping his cool and trying to intellectually turn a battle towards hi, both traits mostly absent in shounen protagonists. His motive more of to avoid letting what happened to him to others instead revenge. Neither he regards demons as a spiteful creators but as former humans. Writer have done a fabulous job in developing sense of pity and sympathy in viewers towards demon by writing surprisingly deep back stories. This creates a sudden atmosphere of sorrow and feels after a adrenaline pumping fight scenes. My most awaited part in the show became reveal of demon’s past, reveal of what it went through when it was human. In this show your enemy monster is not just a mindless killing machine hungry for kill but a character who was once a human, who once had emotions, had desires.
I personally liked all of the cast introduced so far. Writer need a pat on the back for the way she forged her characters. From main siblings duo to side kicks, each character is unique, distinguishable, and quite complex. Even the minor characters that are supposed to fill few minutes of the show have a detailed personality put into them.
Kimetsu no Yaiba holds a special place in my heart for its heartwarming story, strong cast, and gorgeous animation. Its is easily a contender for anime of the year for me. I give this anime a score of:
Masterpiece / 10
